History:
Orhangazi has a rich history, having been part of the Hüdavendigâr vilayet from 1867 until 1922. During this time, the town was captured by the Greek Army in 1919, and its population was massacred.

Orhangazi is home to the Orhangazi Ultra, an 80k part of the İznik Ultramarathon established in 2012. The route passes through several villages in the Orhangazi district around Lake İznik, ending in Örnekköy in Orhangazi district on the route’s westernmost point.
