Gbarnga, Liberia

Welcome to Gbarnga, the capital city of Bong County in Liberia. Located northeast of Monrovia, Gbarnga played a significant role during the First Liberian Civil War as the base for Charles Taylor’s National Patriotic Front of Liberia. Today, it is a bustling city with a population of over 34,000 people. One of the main attractions in Gbarnga is Cuttington College, a private, Episcopal-affiliated institution that is located near the town. The campus was once home to the Africana Museum, which unfortunately was destroyed during the civil war.

Gbarnga is also the hometown of Tamba Hali, a professional football player for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League in the United States. The town is twinned with Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States.

The climate in Gbarnga is classified as tropical monsoon (Am) by the Köppen-Geiger climate classification system. It is similar to the capital Monrovia, but less rainy and with cooler night temperatures.
