Laukaa is home to the largest Stone Age rock painting site in Fennoscandia, Saraakallio. The paintings, which are over 6,600 years old, depict deer, human, and boat figures and are made using red paint made of hematite-containing soil mixed with blood, urea, and eggs.
Another must-see attraction in Laukaa is the Keitele Canal, which combines Lake Päijänne and Lake Keitele. The canal route was finished in 1994 and was originally used for log floating. Nowadays, the route is used by inland ships and boaters. Three of the five locks on the canal are located in Laukaa, and the area is also famous for recreational fishing.
For those interested in history, Laukaa Museum Village, Kalluntalo, is an open-air museum located in the centre of Laukaa. The museum includes a croft, a main residential building from the 18th century, and six other wooden folk buildings from the Laukaa area. Hartikka Stone Age Residential Area is located in Tarvaala, 10 km from the centre of Laukaa. The items found in the area, mainly in graves, are estimated to be from the time period of 6000 to 4000 B.C. and indicate that this had been a hunting community.
Laukaa is also home to several home museums, including Croft of Hartikka, Hartikan Torppa, and Kankaanpää Home Museum. Visitors can explore the museum buildings and items on display, which are mainly from the 19th century farm house residence.
