History:
Pingxiang’s history dates back to the Stone Age, as suggested by archaeological evidence. During the Han dynasty, it was part of Yichun, and in 267, it became Pingxiang County during the Three Kingdoms period. Throughout the Tang Dynasty, it was known as Yuanzhou and was part of the Jiangnanxi Circuit. Over the years, Pingxiang underwent various administrative changes until it assumed its present form in 1970.

Pingxiang is divided into two urban districts, one economic development area, three counties, 28 towns, 18 townships, and 7 sub-districts. The urban districts are Anyuan District and Xiangdong District, while the counties include Shangli County, Luxi County, and Lianhua County.

As of the 2020 Chinese census, Pingxiang’s total population was 1,804,805 inhabitants, with the majority residing in the built-up areas of the two urban districts.
