Welcome to Xırdalan, the capital of the Absheron District in Azerbaijan. With a population of 95,200, this city is known for its rich history, cultural landmarks, and the country’s biggest brewery, Baltika Baku, previously known as Khyrdalan. One of the most notable landmarks in the city is the monument to Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, which was erected in 2007. Similarly, a statue of Heydar Aliyev was erected in Cairo in 2008. However, in the wake of the 2011 Egyptian protests, the Azerbaijani opposition demanded the demolition of the statue, calling it a worship of idols. On 8 June 2011, the statue was taken down following Mubarak’s resignation. Xırdalan gained city status on 29 November 2006, after its approval by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. The city is also the birthplace of Nabi Khazri, a renowned poet, novelist, and playwright who was named the People’s Poet of Azerbaijan SSR in 1984. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or simply enjoying a cold beer, Xırdalan has something to offer for everyone. Come and explore this hidden gem in Azerbaijan!
