The first settlers of the city were Amerindian nomads, and the area was later granted permission to be inhabited by Diego de Montemayor’s secretary, Diego Díaz de Berlanga, along with Pedro de Iñigo, Domingo Manuel, and D. Pedro de la Garza. Today, San Nicolás is a thriving municipality with a population of over 400,000 people.
One of the highlights of San Nicolás de los Garza is the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, one of the most prestigious public schools in Mexico and Latin America.
