Location:
Located approximately 56 kilometers west of Mbale and 200 kilometers northeast of Kampala, Pallisa is a rural town that can be difficult to reach without private transportation. However, the journey is well worth it for those who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Uganda’s larger cities.

Overview:
Pallisa is a town that is centered around education. When school is in session, the population of the town swells to around 40,000 as children from all around come to attend one of the approximately twenty secondary schools in the area. These students live in huts rented to them by villagers and fend entirely for themselves while going to school. Visitors to Pallisa can get a glimpse into this unique way of life by visiting one of the local schools or by staying in one of the huts themselves.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the mid-year population of Pallisa was estimated to be 42,300 in 2020. The town has experienced an average annual growth rate of 4.26 percent per year between 2014 and 2020.
